A Labrador Retriever thought a group of emergency workers was there to play with him, in a video that has 7.2 million views.
tiktok user @haleyjoklein shared the clip on Feb. 3 of his Labrador trying to encourage firefighters to play with him, despite his owner receiving medical attention in the bathroom.
Along with the home security footage, Klein included the caption: “Never forget my dog brings the ball to the firefighter and plays fetch while I die on the bathroom floor and the EMTs try to pick me up.”

It’s not known why emergency workers were present at her home, but luckily Klein was able to see the humor in her dog’s antics. She wrote: “He was just happy for his friends.”
The American Kennel Club [AKC] refers to Labradors as “famously friendly” and willing to be the companion of anyone. However, this also makes them very enthusiastic and full of energy. The AKC adds that the breed can be a “keen athlete” and requires a lot of play time.
The video shows a firefighter taking a great liking to the Labrador retriever and willingly keeping the dog busy, while bringing medical equipment to the house.
Leigh Siegfried, of the dog training company Opportunity Barks, suggests that owners should make sure their pet has a crate or room they can go to in an emergency.
The dog trainer and behaviorist said End-shutdown week: “If a dog is taught to point to a cage or a room, or to be able to go to a place at the right time, then it can be really useful in these scenarios.”
Siegfried added: “That totally depends on the person being able or able to indicate it. Ideally, if a dog can be comfortable being in a crate or going into a room, that’s the best scenario to get the dog out of the way.” , especially if there are territorial concerns with a stranger entering the home.”
Siegfried’s suggestion of making sure the dog is comfortable in a crate will allow emergency workers to get on with their work without distraction or interference. It can also provide a quiet space for the dog.
Since Klein shared the images on TikTok, the video has received 1.3 million likes and more than 7,000 comments. Many viewers praised the dog’s playfulness with a complete stranger, with many suggesting that it is very typical of a Labrador.
One user commented, “They say the grieving period is different for everyone,” and another wrote, “It’s like, I’m here for a good long time, not a long time.”
